Four Bridges: Measuring Deception Propensity in a Multi-Agent Game
arXiv — cs.MA metadata · Raphael Casey · Published on Readzer
Summary
A study introduces Kradle, a platform, and Four Bridges, an information asymmetry game, to measure deception in multi-agent interactions without explicit instructions to deceive. Across eight frontier models, deceptive behavior appeared in 73% of all runs (ranging from 6% to 100% per model), and did not decrease with capability tier within a model family. Interventions like informing all agents that one knows the death room reduced deception in six of eight models, while an honesty steering vector on an open-weight model reduced deception to 0%.
